Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: Methodology: The present work is a cross-sectional study done at Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital. It included 30 cases that were divided into : Twenty Cases with multiple autoimmune problems along with ten normal subjects matched for age and sex as a control group.The aim of this study was to screen infants and children with multiple autoimmune manifestations for Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID).All children included in the study were subjected to the following : Thorough history, clinical examination and panel of investigations were done including complete blood count, tailored investigations of the autoimmune disease and immunological profile through measuring IgM, IgG and IgA using nephlometry. Diabetes mellitus was complicated with thyroiditis, celiac disease, hemolytic anemia, vitiligo and alopecia. Results: Two patients were diagnosed as CVID, they were both females presenting at two years, born to consanguinas parents and the first patient had a sibling death by CVID. They both had multiple autoimmune diseases; the first patient had enteropathy and vitiligo while the other patient had enteropathy, vitiligo and alopecia. They had recurrent infections with many hospital admissions. The two patients had low serum immunoglobulins and were on regular immunoglobulin therapy. Conclusion: In case of multiple autoimmune diseases patient should be tested for CVID. CVID may present at young age and is associated with several autoimmune features beside infection
