Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Systems and Biomedical Engineering
The purpose of this study was to accomplish stiffness characterization methodology for the prosthetic foot, which can be standardized. In this study numerical tests, using FEA, were conducted on four shape models of a prosthetic foot with and without prongs and three different materials. The models were developed from the niagara foot design (model 1 version 3). The boundary conditions were extracted from the ISO - 10328 and ISO - 22675. Two methods were adopted for describing the stiffness of the foot. Results indicated that the thickness 2B3 affected the toe and heel stiffness. The type of material had a considerable effect on the toe and heel stiffness. The existence of the prongs of the niagara foot had a major contribution in force - displacement relationships. A methodology based on the FEA technique and curve fitting was developed. The methodology appointed by this study can be used to clarify new developments of the niagara foot
