Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine- Department of Internal Medicine and infectious diseases Summary: In this study a total of 717 samples from dogs and their environment from eight different localities were collected. All the samples were subjected to different investigations for isolation and identification of Enterobacteriaceae. 707 Enterobacteriacae isolates could be recovered (616/536 living dogs , 41/ 18 died dogs , 60/ 91 enviromental samples). Epizootiolgical studies revealed that the incidence of Enterobacreiaceae was higher in stray and clinic dogs but lower among kenneled dogs, while the incidence was higher in puppies than adult dogs. The isolation rate in diseased dogs suffered from intestinal disorders was higher in correlation to apparently healthy dogs. E.coli (62%) and Proteus species (20.8%) were the most predominant types. Salmonella could be isolated from one and half year apparently healthy police dog recently imported from Netherlands identified as S.kiel and confirmed to have invA gene by PCR. According to available knowledge, it was the first time to isolate S.kiel strain from dogs in Egypt
