Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Botany-Microbiology Summary: Total of 274 species representing 34 families was recorded in the study region. Chorologically the Sudano-Zambezian elements are the highest among the monoregional species. The present study checklist, resulted in identification of 17 species of 10 families as new recorded in the flora of study area. Vegetation analysis resulted in the recognition of eight plant community groups. The effect of land abandonment on the resilience potential of plant populations was tested on four keystone tree species: Albizia amara, Acacia senegal, Anogeissus leiocarpus, and Balanites aegyptiaca. The study species showed two population resilience strategies: (1) faster resilience, and (2) slow resilience. The variation in the phenological pattern of the plant communities was found to depend mainly on the life form and habitat type, followed by elevation. Wild plants (58 plant species) were identified and scored according to the intensity and range of their uses. The gap between scientific and indigenous knowledge of medicinal uses for any particular plant species was estimated as a concordance ratio
