Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Economics and Political Science - Department of Statistics Summary: Happiness was used as a measure of societies progress instead of economic measures, depending on a direct question. Till now there is no initiatives to measure happiness depending on an index especially at national level. So, this study aims to assess happiness among youth aged (18 - 29) years in 2009, using a multidimensional index (Happiness Index among Youth), depending on Survey of Young People in Egypt (SYPE) in 2009 and 2014. Uncertainty and Sensitivity analysis are applied to examine the robustness and efficiency of the index. Order logistic model and Multinomial logistic model are used to study the main determinants of happiness among youth. The main results of the study is that males are more happier than females. Youth living in urban areas especially in Lower Egypt are more happier than others. Head's education level has a positive significant effect on happiness. As expected, youth whose heads are employed are the happiest. Some individuals were tracked after 5 years, thus the index was recalculated to examine the main changes that had occurred to the happiness level among youth, using SYPE 2014. Comparison between the main results of the index in 2009 and 2014 were performed. The main result was that happiness among youth had increased during 2009-2014. With regard to the Happiness Index among Youth (HIY) domains (Work, Safety environment, and Assets) domains get worse in 2014 compared to 2009, while (Values, Personal health and Mental health) domains get better from 2009 to 2014, and Education domain remains the same
