Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Dermatology and Venerology Summary: Background: Striae distensae (SD)is a cosmetic problem to many patients.Recently, fractional CO₂ laser (FC) has been introduced as a newerresurfacing laser technique in treatment of SD. Also, fractional micro-needle radiofrequency device has been used in the treatmentof SD. Aim: The aim of our study is to assess and compare the efficacy of fractional micro-needle radiofrequency and fractionalCO₂laser in treatment of SD. Methods: Twentyfemale patients with striae distensaewere enrolled in this study.Detailed history and dermatological examination was done to detect the type of striae with themeasurement of the width of eachstriae in both sides. In each patient, both sides were randomly assigned to treatment by either fractional micro-needle radiofrequency (area A), and the other side by fractional CO2 laser (area B).Results:In our study we compare the efficacy of fractional micro-needle radiofrequency& fractional CO₂ laser in the treatment of striae distensae. Both modalities were effective, but our results were better withfractional micro-needle radiofrequency, howeverthe difference was not statistically significant (pvalue =0.716)
