Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Computers and Information - Department of Computer Science
Open Source Software (OSS) has an increasing importance for the software industry. Similar to traditional (closed) software acquisition, OSS acquisition requires an assessment of whether its quality is sufficient for the intended purpose, and whether the chances of being maintained and supported in the future, as well as of keeping certain quality standards over time, are sufficiently high.Due to the unique characteristics of open source software it{u2019}s hard to rely only on the traditional or basic software quality models, moreover these unique characteristics factors make it hard and risky to assess and further to select the most suitable open source software since communities are competing to providing similar software. In this thesis, an open source software quality model is proposed to assess the quality of open source projects hosted on social coding, also for decision makers to evaluate and compare OSS for selection among similar software. The model focuses on community related factors. It is based on previous research on open source quality models in addition to social coding unique community characteristics
