Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of African Postgraduate Studies - Department of Natural Resources Summary: To get the some strains and local varieties those are characterized by desirable qualities and quantities such as pod traits, early and high productivity. A field experiment on pea involving 5 x 5 diallel cross was conducted at the Kaha Research farm (Kalubia Governorate) which belongs to Horticulture Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, during the winter seasons of 2016/2017 and 2017/2018. Combining ability, heterosis and genetic parameters were estimated for 12 important agronomic pea traits. Both GCA and SCA as well as (a) and (b) effects were highly significant for vegetative growth, seeds per pod, No of pods, dry yield, total crude protein and total sugars indicating the importance of both additive and non-additive gene effect for the expression of these characters. The superior parents with valuable positive GCA effects and hence good performance were P1 for early flowering, dwarf parent, seeds per pod, number of pods, 100-seed weight, dry yield, total crude protein and total sugars, P₃ for numerous branches and dry yield, P₂ for numerous branches, longest pod, seeds per pod and total crude protein. P₄ for pod width and seeds per pod and P₅ for seed weight of 10 pods, number of pods, dry yield, total crude protein and total sugars
