Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Prosthodontics Summary: Background and objective: This study was designed to evaluate the impact of double crown system with either titanium / PEEK or titanium /Co-Cr combination on oral and general health related quality of life (OHRQoL) in patients with completely edentulous mandible. Materials and Methods: Participating patients received new complete dentures and then received two mandibular interforaminal implants. Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups. For patients of group (A) the secondary crowns of the telescopic overdenture were made of PEEK material, while those of group (B) the secondary were made of Co-Cr material. Questionnaires were used to assess OHRQoL (OHIP-EDENT). Results: The study was conducted on 18 healthy completely edentulous patients. Patients were recalled two weeks after final dentures insertion, 3m, 6m, 9m and 12m. The results showed that both materials have improved the oral health related quality of life, however there was a non-significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Double crown systems, with either titanium/Peek combination or titanium/Co-Cr combination, have the same impact on oral and general health related quality of life when used for treating patients with completely edentulous mandibles
