Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Cardiology
Background: Coronary tortuosity is a common finding on coronary angiography despite lack of information about clinical symptoms and risk factors prompted us to perform this study to compare patients with and without coronary artery tortuosity.ethods: We examined 788 patients who presented in Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Kasr Al Ainy Hospitals, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt for invasive coronary angiography, for the assessment of chest pain due to suspected coronary artery disease (CAD = 583, Non CAD = 205). Wecompared with 100 patients without tortuosity to determine clinical symptoms, riskfactors, angiographic findings with Gensini and Vessel scores. Results: We found 100 patients with coronary tortuosity among 788 patients (prevalence 12.69%). Female gender and age more than 65 years with hypertension were significantly associated with TCA (p value <0.001). LCX was highly associated with coronary tortuosity (52%) among the coronary arteries. We observed no significant stenosis in tortuous segment (84%). Among the cardiovascular risk factors, only hypertension was significantly associated with TCA (p value <0.001)
