Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Power Engineering
This thesis presents a techno-economic analysis for a rooftop grid-connected photovoltaic system for a residential building in Cairo. A model is developed using TRNSYS 18 simulation software, to analyze the building load and the performance of the PV system. The fixed-tilt PV system is recommended for the residential building as less area is required compared to the tracking systems which offer higher annual energy yield but also a larger area needed. The levelized cost of energy for 28.8 kW PV system varies from 1.2 to 1.42 EGP/kWh and the payback period ranges between 5.8 to 8.2 years. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis implemented with variable discount rates affecting the project to avoid unexpected future fluctuations
