وقد تناول البحث موقفه من المستشرقين بالتقييم من خلال تراجمه وشهاداته لأبرز المستشرقين،  سواء من شهد لهم بالإنصاف أو الإجحاف أو من سكت عنهم ممن ذاع صيتهم واشتهروا بالهجوم على الإسلام أو الدفاع عنه.
ويعد كتاب (المستشرقون) للعقيقي من أوسع الكتب العربية التي تناولت الاستشراق وتراجم المستشرقين .
ويعد نجيب العقيقي من أبرز من دافع عن الاستشراق واتسمت تراجمه أحيانا بالبعد عن الموضوعية
; Najib Al-Aqiqi is considered one of the most prominent writers who wrote about Orientalism in Arabic. He enriched the library with an encyclopedia that included biographies of more than a thousand years of Orientalists around the world which is indispensable for any researcher in Orientalism. The research dealt with his position on the Orientalists by evaluating the most prominent Orientalists through his biographies and testimonies, whether those who testified to them in fairness or injustice, or those who remained unknown while being famous for attacking or defending Islam
