N2  - The aim of the study is to analyze the determinants of defensive democracy within the framework of the dilemma of inter action between liberal democratic systems and extremist political parties, focusing on the rise of extreme right-wing parties in Western Europe. To this end, the dissertation examined the varying policies of countries in dealing with extreme right-wing parties, some of which followed legal mechanisms while others followed political ones. The study applied a comparative analysis method by testing three explanatory variables: the variable of historical experience with Nazi parties, the variable of electoral strength of the party, and the variable of ideological orientation of the party. The study concluded that variations in the pattern of defensive democracy (legal and political) are more influenced by the variables of ideological orientation and electoral strength of the right-wing party than by the historical experience variable; سعت الدراسة إلى تحليل وتفسير محددات الديموقراطية الدفاعية في إطار معضلة تفاعل النظم الديموقراطية الليبرالية مع الأحزاب السياسية المتطرفة بالتطبيق على حالة صعود أحزاب اليمين المتطرف في غرب أوروبا   من خلال دراسة اختلاف سياسات الدول في التعامل مع أحزاب اليمين المتطرف.  فبعضها اتبع آليات قانونية والبعض اتبع آليات سياسية. ولقد طبقت الدراسة أسلوب التحليل المقارن من خلال اختبار ثلاثة متغيرات تفسيرية وهي: متغير الخبرة التاريخية مع أحزاب نازية، متغير الفوة الانتخابية للحزب ومتغير التوجه الأيديولوجي للحزب. وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى أن الاختلافات في نمط الديمقراطية الدفاعية (القانونية والسياسية) تحددها كل من متغيري التوجه الأيديولوجي والقوة الانتخابية للحزب اليميني أكثر من متغير التجربة التاريخية للأحزاب النازية
