The various events that the country has recently experienced in various fields and sectors have had a significant impact on urban development, The most important of these was the increase in the rate of erosion of the lands between urban agglomerations, and the transformation of the Egyptian urban system from a gradual system to an intertwined and cohesive urban system and This had several manifestations, the most important of which was the phenomenon of urban fusions that appeared in a way that made the matter interesting towards this phenomenon , because this phenomenon has many effects, first with decision makers in preparing plans, because this phenomenon requires reconsidering the planning methodology followed in planning urban communities. Secondly, the phenomenon of integration did not occur between rural communities only or urban communities only, but integration occurs between rural and urban communities, and this means the interference of customs and traditions of urban communities that are completely different from the customs and traditions of rural communities, Therefore, a social clash occurs that needs to be dealt with. Thirdly, the overlap of the urban environment of urban agglomerations with rural urbanization creates a difficult problem to solve, which is the inability to apply urban planning requirements to rural agglomerations. And Fourth, the areas of convergence represent areas of unplanned, random expansion, because they grow in areas outside the coverage of infrastructure networks and are connected to those networks in an unplanned manner. Therefore, these areas represent pressure on existing urban development. Despite these different effects of the phenomenon of urban coalescence, previous studies did not address this issue and the greater focus was on studies of urban growth and its most important different forms, Therefore, it is necessary to study the phenomenon of adhesion in order to know the most important different patterns of the adhesion phenomenon, the most important different forms of adhesion stages, and to know the most important motives and reasons for the patterns of the phenomenon of urban adhesion. The research dealt with studying this phenomenon by applying it to the Delta region. A group of cities in the region were selected to study the phenomenon. These cities were selected on the basis of the functional role of the city, the administrative role, and the spatial distinction of the city. Through the previous selection criteria for choosing from the cities of the study region, three cities were selected, which are as follows (Damietta City - El-Mahalla El-Kubra - Tanta). By applying these cities, the study went through several stages, which are as follows: monitoring the phenomenon, followed by analyzing the phenomenon, then deducing the most important results related to studying the phenomenon, which are as follows: identifying the most important different patterns of the phenomenon of urban cohesion, the different forms that the stages of cohesion go through, the most important different motives for the presence of the phenomenon of cohesion in the urban system, and knowing the most important different effects of the phenomenon of cohesion on the Egyptian urban system.
