N2  - Background: Genetic testing has an important medical tool for assessing many
inheritable diseases, and cancers, it plays a vital role to diagnose patients before
symptoms which helps decrease the severity of outcomes and promote quality of life
Aim: to assess the awareness & attitude of genetic testing BRCA1 & BRCA2 among
first-degree relatives and patients with breast cancer. Design: A descriptive
exploratory research design was utilized. Sample: A convenient sample of 100
participants; were divided into 50 patients with confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer
and 50 first-degree relatives of patients with breast cancer. Setting: The study was
conducted at Center of Clinical Oncology & Nuclear Medicine in one of Cairo
University affiliated hospitals. Tools: four tools were utilized to collect data: Tool Ι:
Patients’ Personal and Medical Background Form (PPMBF), Tool Π: First-degree
Relatives’ of Patients with Breast Cancer Personal and Medical Background Form
(FRPBCPMBF). Tool Ⅲ: Awareness of Genetic Testing Structured Questionnaire
(AGTSQ). Tool Ⅳ: Attitude toward Genetic Testing structured Questionnaire
(ATGTSQ): Results: (86%) of patients had an unsatisfactory level of awareness of
genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2, (64%) of patients had a neutral attitude toward
genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2, (32%) of FDRs had a satisfactory level of
awareness of genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2, (60%) of FDRs had a neutral attitude
toward genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2. Conclusion: Awareness of genetic testing
BRCA1 and BRCA2 is very important to detect genetic mutation and improve
prognosis. First-degree relatives and patients with breast cancer had unsatisfactory
level of awareness and neutral attitude toward genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2.
Recommendations: First-degree relatives and patients with breast cancer must
undergo BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing to exclude genetic mutation, awareness
of first-degree relatives of patients with breast cancer should be raised regarding
genetic testing BRCA1 and BRCA2; الخلفية العلميه: تعتبر الاختبارات الجينية أداة طبية مهمة لتقييم العديد من الأمراض الوراثية والسرطانات، فهي تلعب دورًا حيويًا في تشخيص المرضى قبل ظهور الأعراض مما يساعد على تقليل شدة النتائج وتعزيز جودة الحياة.الهدف: تقييم الوعي واإتجاه أقارب ومرضي سرطان الثدي بالاختبارات الجينية. التصميم: تم استخدام تصميم البحث الاستكشافي الوصفي. العينة: عينة مكونة من 100 مشارك؛ تم تقسيمهم إلى 50 مريضة تم تشخيص إصابتهن بسرطان الثدي و50 من أقارب الدرجة الأولى للمرضى المصابين بسرطان الثدي. مكان االدراسة: أجريت الدراسة في مركز علاج الأورام والطب النووي بأحد المستشفيات التابعة لجامعة القاهرة.الأدوات: تم استخدام أربع أدوات لجمع البيانات: الأداة 1: نموذج البيانات الشخصية والطبية للمرضى ,الأداة 2: نموذج البيانات الشخصية والطبية لأقارب المرضى المصابين بسرطان الثدي , الأداة 3: إستبيان الوعي بالاختبارات الجينية,  الأداة 4: الموقف تجاه الاختبارات الجينية: النتائج: (86%) من المرضى لديهم مستوى غير مرض من الوعي بالاختبارات الجينية براكا1 وبراكا 2، (64%) من المرضى لديهم موقف محايد تجاه الاختبارات الجينية براكا 1 وبراكا 2. (32%) من الأقارب من الدرجة الاولى لديهم مستوى مرضٍ من الوعي بالاختبارات الجينية براكا 1 وبراكا 2، (60%) منمن الأقارب من الدرجة الاولى كان لديهم موقف محايد تجاه الاختبارات الجينية براكا 1 وبراكا2.الخلاصة: إن الوعي بالاختبارات الجينية براكا و براكا 2 مهم جدًا للكشف عن الطفرة الجينية وتحسين التشخيص. كان لدى أقارب الدرجة الأولى والمرضى المصابين بسرطان الثدي مستوى غير مُرضي من الوعي والموقف المحايد تجاه الاختبارات الجينية براكا1 وبراكا 2. التوصيات: يجب على أقارب الدرجة الأولى ومرضى سرطان الثدي الخضوع للاختبارات الجينية بركا 1 وبراكا 2 لاستبعاد الطفرة الجينية، كما يجب توعية أقارب الدرجة الأولى لمرضى سرطان الثدي بخصوص الاختبارات الجينية
