N2  - Despite the fact that Carol Ann Duffy’s poetry has become a popular area of 
research, especially after she became Poet Laureate in 2009, space is an under-
researched element in her work. This research focuses on the politics of space as 
shown in six of Duffy’s poetry collections. The complex interplay between center 
and margin provides the figures in Duffy’s poems with new spaces that engage 
them in processes of motion and transformation. The figures therefore move in 
order to find their freedom or lose their agency and remain confined. Thus, 
whether Duffy’s figures are endowed with or deprived of voice will be another 
question of this study in the light of the politics of space. This will be done by 
inspecting spaces of confinement, spaces which allow traversing from margin to 
center and a more intriguing space of the unending. The research adopts an eclectic 
approach so as to explore Duffy’s poetry through a relatively fresh angle, namely, 
the intertwinement of space and voice.; على الرغم من أن شعر كارول آن دافى أصبح مجالا خصبا للبحث، خصوصاً منذ أن أصبحت الشاعرة الرسمية/ شاعرة البلاط عام 2009، إلا أن المكان فى شعرها لم يتم التركيز عليه بشكل كبير. يركز هذا البحث على سياسات المكان فى ستة دواوين شعرية لدافى. العلاقة المعقدة بين المركز والهامش تمد الشخصيات بمساحات جديدة تبقيهم دائما فى عملية حركة وتغيير. لذا، تتحرك بعض الشخصيات لتجد حريتها بينما يفشل البعض الآخر ويبقى مقيدا بلا فاعلية. لذلك، سوف يتعرض هذا البحث أيضا لإشكالية وجود صوت هذه الشخصيات أو انعدامه فى ضوء سياسات المكان. يفحص هذا البحث المساحات المقيدة للحركة، والمساحات التى تسمح للشخصيات بالعبور من الهامش الى المركز، ومساحة أكثر غموضا وهى اللامحدودية. يأخذ هذا البحث على عاتقه قراءة كتب دافى المختارة من خلال نهجا نقديا انتقائيا لفحص هذه الزاوية الجديدة نسبيا، ألا وهى تشابك الصوت مع المكان.
