Aim: Implant supported overdentures have proved to be a better treatment option compared to
conventional dentures in treating edentulous jaws. The present study was carried out to compare the
retention of two different types of attachments used to retain single implant supported mandibular
overdenture using universal testing machine after mechanical aging that was done by chewing simulator.
The two attachments used in this study were Locator and Cendres and Meteaux Locator (CM-LOC).

Methodology: Ten epoxy resin models of completely edentulous mandible were constructed and
prepared to receive a single implant in the midline area. Ten overdentures were constructed with steel
rods fixed to the denture using auto polymerized acrylic resin at the geometric center, two attachment
systems; Locator attachmrent with nylon matrix and Cendres &Meteaux Locator (CM-LOC) with a
PEKK matrix were investigated, with each type of attachment, the pickup procedure consisted of
attaching matrix to the fitting surface of the denture with self-cure acrylic resin. All of the overdentures
were subjected to different chewing cycles 500 cycles = (3 month), 1000 cycles = (6 month), 1500
cycles = (9 month) and 2000 cycles = (12 month) , then retention was evaluated using universal testing
machine..
Results: The Locator attachment have shown a decrease in retention when subjected to different
chewing cycles (p=0.001), with pairwise comparison showing a statistically significant difference
between baseline and 2000 cycles ( p=0.011), between 500 cycle and 2000 cycle ( p=0.024).
While for the CM-LOC group there was a decrease in retention when subjected to 500, 1000, 1500
cylces ( p=0.001), and with a slight increase in retention after 2000 cycles. With pairwise comparisons
there was statistically significant difference at 500 cycles = 3 month and 1500 cycles (9 month).
Conclusion: Within in limitation of the present study in vitro study it can be concluded that both the
Locator and CM-LOC attachment have shown acceptable retention values to support single implant
mandibular retained overdentures. However both attachments have shown a decrease in retention when
subjected to different chewing cycles , The CM-LOC attachment has shown significant better retention
when compared to Locator attachment after 500 cycles .
