N2  - This thesis aims to reexamine the marginalized position of the 
hearing impaired in dramatic works, who suffer from constant 
subordination and exclusion. Drawing on Deaf Studies as the primary 
theoretical framework, the thesis explores how deafness is not merely a 
medical condition but a rich cultural and linguistic identity. Deaf 
Studies offers a critical lens through which the experiences of Deaf 
individuals are understood, emphasizing their Deafnicity, in the sense 
that they have their own agency, community values, and resist audist 
ideologies. The theatre is one of the channels through which the state of 
deaf people is being advanced, and attempts are made to alter their 
constant visualization as being marginalized and treated as a minority. 
Therefore, this thesis aims to explore Deafness as a culture that is 
promoted and valued in the selected dramatic works namely, Rebecca 
Gilman‘s The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (2009), Nina Raine‘s Tribes 
(2010) and Trina Davies‘ Silence (2020). This interdisciplinary thesis, 
thus, uses Deaf Studies to examine how people with hearing 
impairment cope differently, and focuses on their suffering, struggles 
and needs, tracing their journey as they integrate into their communities 
and reshape their identities, shedding the stigmas connected with 
subordination.; تتناول هذهالرسالة إعادة النظر في تهميش ذوى الإعاقةالسمعية في الأعمال الدرامية حيث تعاني هذه الفئة من الاستبعاد والإقصاء ؛ لذلك استهدف الأدباء مؤخرَا مساعدتهم للاندماج في مجتمعاتهم ، وتشكيل هُويتهم من خلال إعطائهم  مساحة في الأعمال الفنية ، وإزالة الوصمات المتعلقة بالإعاقة السمعيةلذا تقوم الأعمال الأدبية المُختارَة بتصوير حالة ذوي الإعاقة السمعية وعرض الصُّمّ كثقافة.
ومن ثم فإن الهدف من هذه الرسالة هو فحص الشخصيات التي تعاني من إعاقة سمعية كما تصورها ثلاثة نصوص درامية هي: مسرحية للكاتبة ريبيكا جيلمانRebecca Gilman  بعنوان The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (2009) (القلب صياد وحيد)، ومسرحية للكاتبة نينا راين Nina Raine بعنوان Tribes (2010) (قبائل) ومسرحية للكاتبة ترينا دافيسTrina Davies بعنوان(2020) Silence (صمت). تتناول هذه الرسالة البينية الدراسات المعنية بالإعاقة السمعية مع رصد لعناصر البناء الدرامي ؛ لاستقصاء  كيفية تأقلم ذوي الإعاقة السمعية بطرق مختلفة، وتركز الرسالة كذلك على معاناتهم وصراعاتهم واحتياجاتهم.
