<br/><br/> The Syrian revolution and the turmoil that the war caused exposed <br/>civilians to violent oppression and devastating events that involved <br/>death of loved ones, injuries, bombardments, and live prosecutions. <br/>These shocking experiences left their mark on the psyches of many <br/>of those civilians, which takes expression in the literature that came <br/>out narrating the experiences of the war. My Country: A Syrian <br/>Memoir (2018) by Kassem Eid, A Land of Permanent Goodbyes <br/>(2018) by Atia Abawi, and No Turning Back: Life, Loss, Hope in <br/>Wartime Syria (2018) by Rania Abouzeid are examples of literary <br/>works that draw attention to the psychological dilemma of the <br/>Syrians. This study aims to analyze the narratives of Syrian victims <br/>who lived through the horrifying experiences of the war as <br/>presented in the texts. This will be carried out by scrutinizing some <br/>characters in the three narratives. Utilizing Michelle Balaev’s <br/>“Trends of Literary Trauma Theory” and Laurie Vickroy’s “Voices <br/>of Survivors in Contemporary Fiction”, the study will investigate <br/>the effects of the trauma caused by witnessing the violence and <br/>atrocities of the war on the psychological state of the survivors and <br/>how this psychic evolution brought into question some of their <br/>main cultural concepts such as national belonging. By doing so, the <br/>thesis seeks to explore how a collective traumatic experience, like <br/>war, changes the psychological formation of individuals and can <br/>collectively re-shape a whole population and its cultural givens.     تبحث هذه الدراسة في سرديات الضحايا السوريين الذين عايشوا فظائع الحرب من خلال ثلاث مؤلفات رئيسية: My Country: A Syrian Memoir لقاسم عيد، وA Land of Permanent Goodbyes لعطية العبوي، وNo Turning Back: Life, Loss and Hope in Wartime Syriaلرانيا أبو زيد. الهدف الأساسي هو تقييم أثر مشاهدة العنف والفظائع على الصحة النفسية لهؤلاء الأفراد، وكيف تحدّت هذه التجارب إحساسهم بالهوية وأفضت إلى تحولات ثقافية عميقة.<br/>لتحقيق ذلك، ينظم البحث حول ثلاثة أهداف محددة. أولاً، يتتبع الهوية الشخصية والاجتماعية لكل شخصية قبل النزاع وأثنائه وبعده، كاشفاً كيف أعادت تجارب الحرب تشكيل تصورهم لذواتهم وارتباطاتهم المجتمعية كما ورد في النصوص. ثانياً، يحلل العلاقة بين الشخصيات والأمكنة الرئيسة – المنازل والأحياء والمدن – التي شكّلت في السابق منظومات عالمهم، مستقصياً تأثير الصدمة على دلالات هذه الأماكن. ثالثاً، يستكشف الأكواد الاجتماعية والثقافية التي حكمت الحياة السورية قبل الحرب وبعدها، مقارناً معتقدات الشخصيات وسلوكياتهم في المرحلتين لرصد التحولات في النُظم الثقافية. من خلال مقارنة تصوّرات ما قبل وما بعد الصدمة في “بلدي: مذكرات سورية”، و”أرض الوداعات الدائمة”، و”لا عودة”، تكشف الأطروحة عن التغيرات الثقافية الناجمة عن التأثير النفسي للحرب.
