The dissertation consists of an introduction, a prelude, five chapters, and a conclusion, along with several appendices. The introduction outlines the rationale for selecting the topic, the study’s objectives, and concludes with the research methodology employed. The prelude examines the circumstances that necessitated the issuance of protection letters, their connection to taxation, and their association with the phenomenon of citizens fleeing from their native regions.
