This thesis deals with a detailed oil - geological investigation on the Bahariya / Upper Cretaceous , petroleum - bearing Formation at the Salam oil field area in the northern Western Desert of EgyptThe Bahariya Formation is divided into an upper member and a lower one based on the variability of the crude oil production from the upper and lower members (reservoirs) The general geologic setting of the studied area (stratigraphic and tectonic settings) is thoroughly reported and discussedThe detailed petrographic study of the available core samples shows that the Bahariya reservoirs are mainly formed of calcareous arenites interbeded with limestones and clays thin interbeds , which are thoroughly studied microscopically and their rock types are identified
