PGE₂, play either a stimulatory or an inhibitory role in bone metabolism, depending on the physiological or pathological circumstances. It contributes to the flare and weal effects by inducing vasodilation and increasing capillary permeability, and these effects are enhanced by synergism with other inflammatory mediators.
