The present methodology and criteria used by designers for quantifying the capacity of staircase and elevator lobby pressurization fans in high rise building are mostly based on a simple air change method which is not correct causing problems in opening staircase doors due to over pressurization or sometimes pressurization is not sufficient to overcome smoke entrance to the pressurized space. To overcome this concern, an analysis of the stack effect phenomena, effective areas for pressurized air passage and smoke movement will be performed to enable the estimation of the required air flow for pressurization. The present thesis describes different methods in calculating pressurized air flow using simple empirical method, due to the simple formulation of this method, a detailed computer modeling will be performed using computer modeling program called CONTAM program to investigate the impacts of various factors like building tightness in design decisions related to pressurization system design UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
