OA is characterized by chronic joint pain and dysfunction which represent a major cause of disability. This work was done to assess the efficacy of autologous PRP injection on induced osteoarthritis in adult male albino rats using light microscope and immunohistochemical study. Methods: One hundred adult male albino rats were divided into five groups, the articular cartilages of the femoral condyles were prepared for histological and immunohistochemical examination. Results: Osteoarthritic group showed loss of zonation, disoriented cells, irregularly eroded surface, decreased articular thickness, many ghost cells, clefts, moderately to weakly stained matrix, and decreased immunohistochemical reaction. Treated group showed marked improvement of all these changes. Untreated group showed no improvement and some times more deterioration. Conclusion: It could be concluded that the results support the application of autologous platelets- rich plasma as an effective method in the treatment of osteoarthritis being confirmed by the improvement of the histological and immunohistochemical reactions of the articular cartilage UR - http://172.23.153.220/th.pdf ER -
