Background: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is considered one of the most common forms of knee pain, affecting physically active populations. Increased frontal-plane knee motion during dynamic activities may play a role in the development of PFP. Increased frontal plane knee excursion may be a compensatory mechanism for decreased ankle dorsiexion. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine if there was an association between reduced ankle dorsiflexion and frontal knee kinematics during step down test in patients with PFPS and healthy controls. Methods: Forty participants (20 PFPS and 20 controls) had participated in this study, their age ranged from eighteen to thirty five years. Each participant has undergone measurement for ankle dorsiflexion range of motion by bubble inclinometer and frontal plane projection angle by Kinovea software for motion analysis. Results: The results showed no relationship between loss of ankle dorsiflexion and frontal plane projection angle in patients with PFPS
