Background: Cochlear implantation (CI) has evolved to become an effective procedure for the restoration of hearing in severe and profound hearing-impaired individuals. It can improve the auditory skills and the speech perception of the children who do not benefit from hearing aid. However, the outcome of implanted children depends on a number of variables. These variables can affect the outcome one at a time or in combination.The aim of the work: This study was designed to document and analyze factors that might affect the outcomes of Cairo University's cochlear implant program. Patients and methods: This prospective study was conducted on fifty children with bilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss who underwent unilateral cochlear implantation at the Cochlear Implant Unit, Kasr Al-Aini Hospital, Cairo University. All the patients were subjected to careful history taking, full medical examination, and audiological, preoperative investigations as well as phoniatric, and IQ assessment before the operation and followed up throughout the year for audiological and speech rehabilitation then subjected to audiological and language assessment after one year of using the device
