Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Andrology and STDs Summary: Patients and methods Our study was carried out on 20 men with ED recruited from the Andrology &Sexology & STDs outpatient clinic-Kasr El-Ainy hospital-Cairo University, where they will be subjected to ICI with (30mg Papaverine + 1mg Phentolamine ),where penile duplex & clinical evaluation will be carried out by the researcher in the 1st visit followed by a wash out interval of 2 weeks for each subject followed by repeating the exact previous procedures using (30 mg Papaverine + 5 mg Verapamil ). All patients were subjected to personal history, sexual history, past history of medical disorders or operations, evaluation of erectile function using an abridged IIEF-5.Measurements of fasting lipid profile, blood sugar, TT, prolactin, PSA were conducted. Penile hemodynamics was assessed using penile duplex study. Results:- There was a statistically significant difference between the cavernosal artery diameter after ICI in the Verapmil group and that before ICI. Our results showed a statistically significant difference between the increase in cavernosal artery diameter in Verapmil Group and that in Phentolamine group. Concerning PSV at 5 minutes after ICI, a statistically significant difference was found between Verapmil Group and that in Phentolamine Group. In this study there was a statistically significant difference between the RI after ICI in the Verapmil group and that of the phentolamine Group .Conclusion: Verapamil as an erectogenic agent may be a promising drug of choice in treatment of erectile dysfunction through intracavernosal route which act by blocking calcium channels, resulting in relaxation of the tone of the smooth muscles lining blood vessels, leading to blood vessel dilatation and thus promoting the inflow of blood achieving penile erection
