Introduction: Catheter related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) are associated with increases in mortality, morbidity and hospitalization costs for pediatric patients. Objective: Evaluate common infection related pitfalls during CVCs insertion and care and its relation to blood stream infection. Sujects and methods: Cross sectional observational study was conducted at the PICUs of Cairo University Children Hospital to patients with CVC inserted during the period from July 2017 to January 2018.120 patients with 146 CVCs inserted were observed during the procedure and followed up for the occurrence of BSI till discharge or death. Results: Total duration of CVCs insertion ranged from 3 days to 27 days with median of 11 days and mean of 11.82±5.85 days. No CRI was recorded in 85 of CVCs (58.2%), confirmed CRI was recorded in 25 of CVCs (17.1%), suspected CRI was noticed in 36 of CVCs (24.7%). Number of days after which CRI was noticed to develop ranged from third day of CVC insertion till 22 day since CVC insertion with median of 9 days. Most common organisms in CVC tip culture were Pseudomonas and Staph aureus in 23.3% of cultured CVCs tip each
