Von Willebrand (vW) Protein is a large , adhesive glycoprotein of complex multimeric structure that mediates the adhesion of platelet to subendothelium after injury , thrombus Formation and coagulation , the latter as carrier for Factor VIIIit is synthesized by endothelial cells and Megakaryocytes as a primary translation product of 2813 amino acids , which are likely to be the source of vW protein in plasma and subendothelium and stored in the Weibel - Palade bodies and in an internal structure in the alpha - granule of plateletsvW protein is first synthesized as a 260 - KD precursor sub unitvWF is located on the short arm of chromosome 12
