يتناول موضوع الرسالة مفهوم الهوية العمرانية وعناصر الهوية والعوامل المؤثرة عليها مع تعريف المدن التاريخية وإيضاح المكونات العمرانية للمدينة التاريخية وتأثير الزمن على عناصر التركيب العمراني وخصائص عناصر الهوية العمرانية، وذلك لفهم وتفسير الحالة الراهنة للهوية العمرانية للمدينة ذات الأصل التاريخي مع مراعاة أن تكون المدن مليونية عواصم لبلادها وذلك عن طريق إسقاط خصائص عناصر الهوية العمرانية على مكونات الهوية مع مراعاة أن تكون المكونات من العناصر العمرانية المهيمنة في التركيب الحاكم للمدينة. وذلك للخروج بمجموعة من العوامل العمرانية الاسترشادية التي تؤدي إلى صياغة تصميم عمرانى يحافظ على المكتسبات الحضارية للمدينة ذات الأصل التاريخى.

The concept of the thesis addresses is urban identity, its elements, and the factors influencing it, along with the definition of historical cities and the clarification of the urban components of the historical city. It also discusses the impact of time on the elements of urban structure and the characteristics of urban identity elements. The objective is to understand and interpret the current state of urban identity in cities with historical origins, focusing on major capital cities with populations exceeding one million. This is achieved by projecting the characteristics of urban identity elements onto the components of identity, ensuring that these components are dominant elements in the governing structure of the city. The goal is to develop a set of guiding urban factors that lead to the formulation of urban designs that preserve the cultural heritage of historically- rooted cities.
