Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics
Asthma is a common disease in children. This study was conducted at Allergy and Pulmonology outpatient clinic at Specialized University Children{u2019}s Hospital, Cairo University. It included 85 Egyptian asthmatic children. Forty-three of them were stable asthma and 42 were acute asthma. Full history taking, clinical examination, full blood picture for eosinophil count and serum level of IP-10 were done. Serum IP-10 levels were significantly higher in patients with exacerbations compared to those in stable states (p-value < 0.001). Serum IP-10 level showed positive significant correlation with degree of asthma severity with no significant correlation with degree of asthma control. The study concludes that IP-10 might play a role in pediatric asthma exacerbation and severity
