This thesis proposes interventions for the island of Tsukishima, which faces
multiple threats to its historic urban districts brought by climate change and
redevelopment, that aim to make the island a more resilient and vibrant district
for living and working. A series of interventions aimed at the public realm and
waterfront reconnect the island to the sea and offer new public spaces that
serve towards community bonding. Guidelines proposed for historic districts
aim to preserve the character of these areas, while promoting new activities
by targeting historic structures for adaptive reuse and converting vacant lots
into community green spaces. This thesis also offers a series of guidelines for
new developments that incorporate nature and serve to address climate
change. Nature-based solutions for flood protection are proposed to strengthen
the island’s existing flood defenses. Together, these interventions and
guidelines contribute to the guiding principle of the project – connection the
island to nature, its heritage and waterfront setting

وصف مدينة طوكيو (إيدو سابقًا) غالبًا بمصطلحات ثنائية المعنى- تاريخية وحديثة ، ضخمة وذات مقياس بشري، وصاخبة ومنظمة. تتميز جزيرة تسوكيشيما طوكيو بموقع فريد في خليج طوكيو حيث تقع بين المدينة التاريخية والحديثة وبين اليابس والخليج. وتعد طوكيو مدينة ساحلية، تتمتع بعلاقة غنية تاريخياً مع ممراتها المائية مع الكثير من التحديات. ولذلك، فقد أثرت التنمية العمرانية الى جانب وجود الكوارث الطبيعية على الكثير من النسيج الحضري التاريخي وغيرت شكل الحدود بين العمران والمسطحات المائية. واليوم تتفاقم هذه المشاكل بسبب تهديد جديد يتحدى المدن الساحلية حول العالم - تغير المناخ وآثاره مثل ارتفاع مستوى سطح البحر-زيادة تواتر العواصف. وردا على هذه التهديدات، فيهدف هذا المقترح البحثي إلى تحسين جودة الحياة لسكان الجزيرة من خلال إنشاء الفراغات العامة التي تساهم في ”البنية التحتية الاجتماعية” للجزيرةمع التكيف وتخفيف آثار التغير المناخى. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، يستهدف هذا البحث الوصول الى مبادئ توجيهية للمناطق التاريخية في الجزيرة وللتنمية الجديدة التي تعيد ربط الجزيرة بمحيط ميناءها وتعزز هويتها الفريدة
