Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Design and Production Summary: In the present work a new closed center valve concept is presented and analyzed. The valve is proposed for use as a pilot stage for a two stage servovalve. The valve operation concept is verified using MATLAB simulink and the flow rate is estimated using ANSYS Fluent. The dynamic performance is analyzed using the developed model. Using the results of the simulations, full mechanical design drawings for the servovalve are presented which is shown to be competitive with existing commercial valves. In addition to the servovalve, a fast switching valve is presented and simulated in Simulink as a pilot stage for a two stage digital valve. Different control modes are used in the simulation and the results are shown to be promising compared to existing digital valves
