  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Physical Chemistry Summary: A variety of styrene maleic anhydride copolymer (SMA) derivatives were prepared and evaluated for toxic metal and dye uptake. This was done by modifying (SMA) with amine compounds; two prepared amino thiophene derivatives; (EATTC), (ATTCN), and different alkyl diamine (ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, and dodecyl diamine). Hydrolyzed SMA and sulphonated SMA were synthesized, further they form a complex compound with extracted chitosan (CS) and used for dye uptake. Nano SMA-Chitosan composite films were prepared. The mechanical properties and the water vapour transmittance rate were investigated. Swelling behaviour of these films in different pH was studied. Novel microfibers were prepared by electrospinning of mixed solutions of SMA and SMA-thiophene derivatives the antimicrobial activity of these fibers was evaluated. SMA derivative was blended with prepared chitosan nano particles. The blends have a strong bactericidal and a high antifungal capacity
