ملاحظة الأطروحة: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Therapy for Gynecology and Obstetrics ملخص: Background: It is generally believed that women are more commonly affected by varicose veins than men and most studies have shown a female predominance of varicose veins. Obesity has been identified as a risk factor associated with the development of chronic venous disease. Purpose of study: Was conducted to compare between the effect of compression therapy and calf muscles strengthening exercise on varicose veins in obese post-menopausal women. Subjects and methods, thirty obese post menopausal women complaining from unilateral leg varicose veins were selected from out patient clinic Elkasr Elainy{u2013}university hospital, their age ranged between 48-65 years old and their body mass index (BMI) ranged from 30 to 35 kg/m². They were divided randomly into two groups equal in number: Group A consists of fifteen women, they received compression therapy on affected leg just above the toes until the level of the thigh for 20 minutes three session per week for 4 weeks. Group B consists of fifteen women. They performed calf muscles strengthening exercise, 10 repeations for each exercise-three sessions per week for 4 weeks. Doppler ultra sound is used to assess diameter of Short Saphenous Vein( SSV), lLowenberg provaction test was used to assess venous capacitance and Pain Intensity scale to measure pain intensity for both groups (A&B) before and after treatment
