أهمية تاريخ الأنطاكي كمصدر تاريخي يؤرخ للدولتين الإسلامية والبيزنطية في الوقت نفسه خلال القرن الخامس الهجري/ الحادي عشر الميلادي. ونقد الأنطاكي المتوازن للمسلمين والنصاري، على حد سواء، وحياديته وموضوعيته في سرد الأحداث، وهو النصراني الذي عاش في مصر الفاطمية، زمن " الحاكم بأمر الله"، الذي كان قد ألحق اضطهادات جمة بالجماعة المسيحية التي ينتمي الأنطاكي إليها.
The new news that Antioch provided was unique to any of the historians who preceded him, including what related to Christian beliefs, and what related to the disputes and schisms that afflicted the Christian community in his time. The comprehensiveness of the book, in that it contains economic, social, and ideological news, and news of natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, thunder, lightning, epidemics, and high prices, and is not limited to political and military news only.
