Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Organic Chemistry Summary: Moringa grows in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. the genus Moringa belonging to family Moringaceae. It is found to possess various medicinal uses including hypoglycemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, hypo-lipidemic and antioxidant activities. In this study we investigated the anti-cancer and anti-microbial activity of the moringa oleifera and moringa peregrina leaves extracts which grown locally in Egypt. The anticancer activity tested against hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) and breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cancer cell lines. the extracts of leaves showed notable anti-cancer properties. Also, the toxicity was significantly low in both moringa oleifera and moringa peregrina leaves extracts using the normal melanocytes cell line (HFB4). In addition, cell cycle progression, apoptosis and (BAX, BCL2, P53, CASP3 and MMP1) genes expression evaluation were done to evaluate this anticancer effect. Many bioactive phytochemicals compounds with known anti-cancer activity were identified using the GC/MS analyses. This proposes that the anti-cancer properties of moringa oleifera and moringa peregrina leaves extracts could be attributed to these phytochemical compounds existing inside it. Additionally, the anti-microbial activity against gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria and Fungi were done. Most of the extracts found to possess high antimicrobial activity
