Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Computers and Information - Department of Computer Science Summary: A novel semantics-based recommendation framework is presented. It aims to enhance the quality of items' recommendation by exploiting the semantic relations among these items in the specific domain. An ontological user profile is built for each user such that it is based on items' domain ontology. Different sets of experiments demonstrated superior performance of the proposed semantics-based framework compared to traditional collaborative filtering techniques. Furthermore, a solution for the problem of cold start is presented
