Seamus heaney was born a Catholic during the Protestant political dominance of Ulster in Northern Ireland . He has experienced at first hand political and religious animosities and has been a witness to troubles and divided allegiances . Such troubles were reflected in his poetry however the greatest struggle of all hss been the one between his social imperatives and his artistic freedom
