Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Nursing Services Administration Summary: Numerous investigators had studied the clinical decision making in the critical setting but rarely examined the workplace empowerment and clinical decision making among the nurses within the critical care units. The current study seeks to assess the impact of workplace empowerment on nurses' clinical decision making in the intensive care units at New Kasr Al -Aini Teaching Hospital. A descriptive exploratory design was utilized to achieve the aim of the current study. The study included all staff nurses (250 nurse) working in critical care units. Two tools were utilized to collect the data of the current study: 1- first tool; classified to socio-demographic data sheet, and clinical decision making tool. 2-second tool; Questionnaire designed to measure workplace empowerment. The results of the current study showed that the clinical nurses had moderate level of workplace empowerment and clinical decision making. A positive correlation between workplace empowerment and clinical decision making dimensions (r=0.773, P<0.000).the study concluded that nurses had abilities to make clinical decisions, but they controlled by many factors that restricted their abilities as, heavy responsibilities. The study recommended that ICU nurses can be empowered to provide optimal clinical decisions in their critical care units by increase their satisfaction and trust as provide incentives, manage frustration and practice leadership in everyday activities
