520			_aBackground: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) constitutes a considerable nutritional problem in Egyptian preschool children. Moreover, IDA limits physical activity performance and interferes with children's development. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the relation of IDA with pinch strength and hand dexterity in preschool children. Methodology: Eighty-seven children of both sexes aged from 5 to 6 years participated in this observational cross-sectional study. Thirty-six non-anemic healthy children were assigned as a control group (group A) and fifty-one were anemic children. The anemic children were divided into two groups; twenty-five children with mild IDA (group B); and twenty-six children with moderate IDA (group C). They were selected from the Outpatient Clinic of Pediatrics, Zagazig University Hospitals and Al- Awael Private Schools Kindergarten. Children in all groups were subjected to laboratory investigation of IDA by complete blood picture hemoglobin (Hb), serum iron, and serum ferritin. Manual dexterity and pinch strength (tip-to-tip and tripod strength) were examined by the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Second Edition (BOT-2) and Baseline Mechanical Pinch Gauge, respectively. Results: The results revealed a positive correlation between Hb, serum iron, and serum ferritin with manual dexterity and pinch strength (tip-to-tip and tripod pinch strength) in the three groups. Conclusion: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) influences fine motor skills including manual dexterity and pinch strength in preschool children.
520			_aشارك سبعة وثمانون طفلاً من كلا الجنسين تراوحت أعمارهم بين خمسة إلى ستة سنوات شاركوا في هذه الدراسة المقطعية الرصدية. انضم الي الدراسة ستة وثلاثين طفلاً أصحاء غير مصابين بأنيميا نقص الحديد كمجموعة ضابطة (المجموعة أ). بينما شارك واحد وخمسون طفلاً المصابين بأنيميا نقص الحديد وتم تقسيمهم إلى مجموعتين؛ خمسة وعشرون طفلاً مصابين بـأنيميا نقص الحديد الخفيف (المجموعة ب)؛ وستة وعشرون طفلاً مصابين بأنيميا نقص الحديد المتوسط (المجموعة ج). تم اختيارهم من العيادة الخارجية لطب الأطفال بمستشفيات جامعة الزقازيق وروضة مدارس الأوائل الخاصة. وقد تم إخضاع الأطفال للفحص المختبري لأنيميا نقص الحديد عن طريق صورة دم كاملة بها نسبة الهيموجلوبين، وتحليل مستوي الحديد والفريتين في مصل الدم. وقيمت المهارة اليدوية وقوة القرص (من طرف إلى طرف وقوة حامل ثلاثي) من خلال اختبار Bruininks-Oseretsky للكفاءة الحركية، الإصدار الثاني، ومقياس الضغط الميكانيكي الأساسي، على التوالي. وبذلك تؤثر أنيميا نقص الحديد على المهارات الدقيقة بما في ذلك المهارة اليدوية وقوة القرص لدى أطفال ما قبل المدرسة.
