| 520 | _aThe study of ancient Egyptian medicine is largely based on the study of medical texts recorded on papyri. Among the most important Egyptian medical papyri are the Kahun Papyrus, the Ramesseum Papyrus III, IV, and V, Edwin Smith, Ypres, and Hearst, the London, Leiden, and Berlin Papyrus, the Carlsberg Papyrus, Chester Beatty, and Brooklyn Papyrus, and the Ashmolean Museum Papyrus. These papyri are distinguished by their medical content, which is divided according to the specialty of each one. The researcher seeks to present a study from a specialized medical point of view based on ancient medical sources that deals with various diseases of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. This study aims to determine the ancient Egyptian knowledge of these diseases and their relationship to each other. Diseases of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems share many symptoms and are responsible for regulating the body's movement. The researcher attempts to define the ancient Egyptian terms associated with these diseases, and to clarify their suitability, accuracy, and conformity with the modern perspective of these diseases. The role of the researcher was determined in an attempt to transliterate the texts, then translate them, in a more specialized manner, as an attempt to reach the meaning closest to many of the words that appeared in those texts, and Grapow (1958) translated them all to mean illness or pain, despite the difference in wording and context. Likewise, the researcher tried in studying it, we know the suitability of the ingredients contained in the texts of the recipe, the method of preparing it, and the method of using it, for the symptoms and diseases mentioned in those texts. The study concluded that the therapeutic texts contained in the medical papyri were quite accurate in determining the symptom and disease, as well as in the suitability of the treatment and its components, with their weights and methods of preparation, for the proposed disease that it treats. | ||
