520		3	_aBackground: Passive smoking is the leading preventable cause of many issues in children which has also been related to a wide range of physical and mental health constraints in children. Aim: 1) To investigate the effect of passive smoking on executive and pulmonary functions in school-aged children. 2) Find out if there was a relation between pulmonary functions and executive functions in school aged children. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 240 school-aged children of both sexes, their ages ranged between 8– 12 years, 120 non-passive smoking children and 120 passive smoking children were recruited. For both groups, pulmonary functions included (forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), and FEV1/FVC were measured by the spirometer. Executive functions were evaluated using the Tower of ionaH, Eriksen flanker test, Stroop colored word test, Trail-making tests (A and B). Results: There was a significant reduction in all measurable pulmonary function tests (FVC, FEV1, PEF, and FEV1/FVC) due to passive smoking. Also, there was a significant decrease of executive function tests in passive smoking children compared with eossHap-nan smoking children. Additionally, there was a significant correlation between pulmonary functions and executive functions in school children. Conclusion: Passive smoking has an adverse impact on executive and pulmonary functions in school-aged children.
520		3	_aالخلفية: التدخين السلبي هو السبب الرئيسي الذي يمكن الوقاية منه للعديد من المشكلات عند الأطفال والتي ارتبطت أيضًا بمجموعة واسعة من القيود على الصحة البدنية والعقلية لدى الأطفال. الأهداف: دراسة تأثير التدخين السلبي على الوظائف التنفسية والوظائف التنفيذية لدى أطفال المدارس, ومعرفة ما إذا كانت هناك علاقة بين الوظائف التنفسية والوظائف التنفيذية لدى أطفال المدارس. مواد و طرق البحث: أجريت دراسة مقطعية على عينة من 240 طفلًا في سن المدرسة من كلا الجنسين ، تراوحت أعمارهم بين 8-12 عامًا ، (المجموعة أ) تتكون من 120 طفلًا غير مدخن سلبيا و(المجموعة ب) تتكون من 120 طفلًا مدخنًا سلبيًا. شملت الوظائف التنفسية (السعة الحيوية القسرية ، وحجم الزفير القسري في ثانية واحدة ، وذروة معدل التدفق الزفيري, والنسبة بين حجم الزفير القسري في ثانية واحدة على السعة الحيوية القسرية) ، وتم التقييم بواسطة مقياس التنفس. كما تم قياس الوظائف التنفيذية باستخدام برج هانوي ، واختبار إريكسن فلانكر ، واختبار ستروب للكلمات الملونة ، واختبارات صنع المسار (أ, ب). النتائج: كان هناك انخفاض كبير في جميع القياسات و اختبارات الوظائف التنفسية بسبب التدخين السلبي. وأيضًا كان هناك انخفاض كبير في اختبارات الوظائف التنفيذية لدى الأطفال الذين يدخنون سلبيًا مقارنة بالأطفال غير المدخنين سلبيا. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، كان هناك ارتباط طردي ذو دلالة إحصائية بين الوظائف التنفسية والوظائف التنفيذية لدى أطفال المدارس. الخلاصة: للتدخين السلبي تأثير سلبي على الوظائف التنفسية والوظائف التنفيذية لدى الأطفال في سن المدرسة.
