520 3 _aPurpose: This study was carried out to determine the effect of lung boost exerciser on inspiratory muscles strength post abdominal surgeries. Material and Methods: Sixty patients (34 females and 26 males), their ages ranged from 35 to 50 years. The patients were selected from Kasr El-Ainy diagnosed with pulmonary complications post upper abdominal surgeries and randomly divided equally in number into two groups. Group (A) consisted of thirty patients post abdominal surgeries who received lung boost exerciser plus conventional physical therapy programme including (diaphragmatic breathing exercise, pursed-lip breathing exercise and upper limb exercises connected with respiration), twice daily 6 times in a week for 4 weeks. Group (B) Consisted of thirty patients post abdominal surgeries and received conventional chest physiotherapy programme including diaphragmatic breathing exercise, pursed-lip breathing exercise and upper limb Exercises connected with respiration in addition to medical care Ten times repetition for each exercise for 4 weeks, Maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) was measured using respiratory pressure check (RP check) at day 2 post operative then after 2 weeks as post I then after 4 weeks as post II Results: Lung boost exerciser showed significant statistical improvement along with conventional chest physiotherapy over conventional chest physiotherapy alone for post upper abdominal surgeries with % of improvement of group (A) pretreatment- post I was 68.26% and pretreatment-post II was 143.84% while percentage of change of group (B) pretreatment-post I was 34.92% and pretreatment-post II was 81.45%, (p <0.05). Conclusion: Lung boost exerciser is superior to conventional chest physiotherapy in improving post operative pulmonary complications post upper abdominal surgeries.
