It also discusses the impact of time on the elements of urban structure and the characteristics of urban identity elements. The objective is to understand and interpret the current state of urban identity in cities with historical origins, focusing on major capital cities with populations exceeding one million. This is achieved by projecting the characteristics of urban identity elements onto the components of identity, ensuring that these components are dominant elements in the governing structure of the city. The goal is to develop a set of guiding urban factors that lead to the formulation of urban designs that preserve the cultural heritage of historically- rooted cities.
