| 520 | 3 | _aThis study investigated the effects of vermicompost, biochar, and compost on the growth, yield, and fruit quality of Sweet pepper plants under greenhouse conditions during two consecutive seasons. The treatments were as follows: T1 (100% vermicompost), T2 (75% vermicompost + 25% biochar), T3 (50% vermicompost + 50% biochar), T4 (50% biochar + 50% compost), T5 (75% compost + 25% biochar), and T6 (100% compost as control), Each treatment was arranged in three replicates. Results showed that vermicompost, either alone or integrated with biochar, significantly improved vegetative growth parameters (plant height, leaf area, and number of leaves). Moreover vermicompost treatments markedly increased fruit yield and improved fruit quality by elevating antioxidant compounds (total phenols, β-carotenoids, and ascorbic acid), while reducing nitrate accumulation in fruits. Although compost with biochar also produced positive effects, vermicompost-based treatments consistently outperformed all other treatments. These findings highlight the potential of vermicompost and biochar as sustainable and efficient organic amendments for sweet pepper production. By improving plant growth, boosting yield, and enriching fruit quality, these organic amendments provide promising alternatives to synthetic fertilizers, thereby supporting sustainable, environmentally friendly, and resource-efficient agriculture. | |
