520 _aDiabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease; Diabetes presents a worldwide burden, one of the main threats to human health in this century. Diabetes is the eleventh most important cause of premature mortality in Egypt, diabetes is the sixth most important cause of disability burden in Egypt. Insulin therapy is a potent and life saving medication but if prescribed or administered inappropriately or inaccurately, it has the potential to cause harm. Insulin management and prescribing errors are very common and can lead to patient harm. Harm that may occurs are often as a result of not having the right insulin, in the right dose, in the right site and at the right time. Insufficient knowledge and improper practice of insulin contribute to errors in its use that may cause adverse patients outcomes as hypoglycemia leading to patient death. Therefore, the aim of the study was to identify of diabetics knowledge and practice regarding safe insulin therapy at outpatient clinics in Cairo University Hospital. A descriptive exploratory design was utilized in this study. A purposive sample of 110 adult male and female patients with diabetes mellitus, treated with insulin at outpatient clinics in Cairo University Hospital, was included for this study
