520 _aObjective: To determine the incidence and associated factors of multidrug- resistant hospital associated infections (MDR-HAI) in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of the Cairo University Children Hospital, Egypt. Method: A prospective study was performed in the PICU of the Cairo University Pediatric Hospital, Egypt during the period March 2014- August 2014. Children aged {u2264} 15 years who developed PICU-related HAI were studied. Results: Fifty- seven patients (mean age 21 months) developed 106 episodes of PICU- related HAI. The HAI rate was 28%, equivalent to 58.85% per 1000 patient days. Ninety- eight (92.4%) episodes were MDR-HAI. The insertion of endotracheal tube (ETT) was a significant risk factor for MDR-HAI. Conclusion: The incidence of MDR-HAI was high in the PICU. ETT insertion was a risk factor for MDR-HAI
