520 _aThe recording of electric activity of corpus cavernosum was introduced at the end of the past century as an investigation that may help to provide information on the smooth musculature and autonomic innervations of the penis. Several investigators had tried to develop corpus cavernosum electromyography (CC-EMG) as a direct clinical method to evaluate the state of penile autonomic innervations and the cavernous smooth muscle. However, its application as a diagnostic tool with clinical relevance was hindered by insufficient knowledge of cavernous smooth muscle electrophysiology, lack of standardization, technical and practical difficulties and problems in the interpretation of the results
