| 520 | _aIn this study we tried to detect factors that may play a role in the development of AGA in males together with the association of AGA with MS. This case - control study included 60 male patients with AGA (grade 3 or more) in addition to 40 normal age and gender-matchedcontrols. Their ages ranged between (20-45)years. They all were recruited from Dermatology outpatient clinics ofKasr Al-ainy hospitals. All were interviewed in person and direct observation of AGA was made. A detailedhistory was taken including age, duration of AGA, age of onset and exposure to hypothesized risk factors. Anthropometric measures, body mass index, lipid parameters, fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, and presence of MS wererecorded. The obtained data was tabulated and statistically analyzed. The results revealed that use of anabolic steroids and hair cosmetics including permanent hair straighteners, particularly glatt, and hot combing were statistically higher among cases compared to controls; suggesting their role in increasing the risk of AGA development in men. However, there was no significant effect of smoking and emotional stress in icreasing the risk of AGA development.Concerning MS, we revealed no association between AGA and MS. However, higher levels of TC and LDL and lower levels of HDL were found among cases compared to controls | ||
